In a significant move towards sustainable urban development, the City of Dallas has announced a partnership with Ford Pro to advance its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This collaboration, designed with the residents in mind, aims to support the growing demand for EVs and promote environmentally friendly transportation options within the city, making Dallas a more livable and eco-conscious place for its inhabitants.
The initiative, detailed in a recent announcement, underscores Dallas’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing the accessibility of EV charging stations for its residents.
By selecting Ford Pro, a division of Ford Motor Company specializing in commercial vehicles and services, Dallas is partnering with a trusted and experienced entity in the automotive industry, instilling confidence in the project’s success among stakeholders.
Ford Pro will be responsible for deploying a comprehensive network of EV charging stations across various strategic locations in Dallas. This network is expected to include fast-charging and standard charging options, catering to different user needs and ensuring EV owners have convenient access to charging facilities. The project will also involve integrating advanced technologies to optimize the efficiency and reliability of the charging stations.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to make EV ownership more practical and appealing to a broader population segment. “This collaboration with Ford Pro is a crucial step in our efforts to create a more sustainable and resilient city,” Johnson stated. “By expanding our EV charging infrastructure, we are not only supporting current EV owners but also encouraging more residents to consider switching to electric vehicles.”
The initiative aligns with Dallas’s unwavering commitment to its broader environmental goals, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. The city has been actively and passionately pursuing various green initiatives, and the enhancement of EV infrastructure is seen as a pivotal component of these efforts.
In 2020, Dallas approved its Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan (CECAP), which includes efforts to reduce carbon emissions by installing EV chargers citywide and incorporating light-duty EVs into the city’s fleet of 5,400 electric vehicles.
Ford Pro’s involvement in the project is expected to bring significant benefits, given the company’s extensive automotive sector experience and commitment to innovation in EV technology. The partnership will also include training and support for local technicians to ensure the long-term sustainability and maintenance of the charging stations.
As part of the agreement, the city of Dallas will install Ford Pro chargers at fleet worksites and use Ford Pro’s innovative charging software to manage the charging needs of its fleet vehicles. This integrated solution ensures that the city’s vehicles are charged efficiently and ready for use when needed. The city aims to electrify all of its fleet vehicles by 2040, a goal of its broader climate action plan.
Rising fuel prices, the potential for lower operational costs with EVs, and suitable use cases for municipal agencies are driving the trend of state and local governments adding EVs to their fleets.
Ford Pro Charging already serves hundreds of local government customers, highlighting the growing demand for high-quality EV chargers and intelligent charging software.
