Ather Energy, a leading electric scooter manufacturer in India, has recently partnered with the Tata Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the electric vehicle sector. This collaboration aims to develop a specialized workforce capable of meeting the evolving needs of India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.

Ather Energy and Tata Institute of Skills partnership combines the former’s industry expertise with the latter’s commitment to skill development. Together, they will offer comprehensive training programs on EV technology and battery specialization. The programs equip trainees with technical knowledge in various aspects of electric vehicle manufacturing and maintenance, including:

  • Battery systems
  • Electric motors
  • Power electronics
  • Charging infrastructure
  • Vehicle safety

The training will provide technical skills and practical experience in EV maintenance, repair, and diagnostics. Trainees will also develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

To support these programs, Ather Energy will provide vehicles, motors, batteries, and other essential hardware to establish EV labs at Tata IIS facilities across India. The company will also train Tata IIS instructors at its manufacturing plants and R&D labs to ensure the course content remains up-to-date with industry trends and technological advancements.

Swapnil Jain, Co-founder & CTO of Ather Energy, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “We believe such collaborations are essential to cultivating a robust pool of skilled workforce, ensuring that India becomes a global hub for all things EV.”

This partnership is crucial for India’s EV industry. Despite the industry’s rapid expansion due to technological advancements and rising consumer adoption, there is a sizable skill gap. A recent study highlighted a shortage of technicians explicitly trained in electric vehicle systems and battery technologies. By addressing this gap, Ather Energy and Tata IIS aim to create a workforce capable of supporting the country’s ambitious EV goals.

About Ather Energy

Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain founded the Indian electric mobility company Ather Energy in 2013. The company designs, manufactures, and sells high-performance smart electric scooters. Headquartered in Bangalore, Ather Energy has two EV manufacturing facilities – one in Whitefield, Bangalore, and another in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Ather Energy’s mission is to revolutionize urban commutes and shape the cities of tomorrow through efficient electric vehicles. The company believes that e-mobility is the preferred choice for the future due to its inherent efficiency. In addition to manufacturing electric scooters, Ather Energy is establishing Ather Grid, a network of fast charging points across India.

The company’s product lineup includes the Ather 450 Apex, Ather 450S, Ather 450X, Ather 450X Pro, and Ather Rizta. Ather Energy has gained recognition as India’s third-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, competing with major players like Ola Electric, TVS Motor Company, and Bajaj Auto.

With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Ather Energy continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility in India. The company’s partnership with Tata IIS further demonstrates its commitment to developing the EV ecosystem and supporting the growth of skilled professionals in the industry.
