In a significant move for Italy’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Atlante, a subsidiary of the NHOA Group, has secured a competitive tender from Autostrade per l’Italia (ASPI). This project involves designing, constructing, and managing over 90 ultra-fast charging points. This development marks a pivotal step in enhancing the EV charging network along Italy’s highways, addressing the critical need for efficient and accessible charging solutions for long-distance travel.

Project Overview

Atlante will install these charging points across eight ASPI-managed service areas in Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Campania, and Apulia. The renowned Bertone Design has designed these stations to feature advanced technological integrations, such as solar panels and energy storage systems, ensuring that the energy used is 100% renewable.

Technological Integration and Design

Each charging point will offer ultra-fast charging capabilities of up to 400 kW, significantly reducing the time required for EVs to recharge. This development will alleviate range anxiety among EV users, making electric mobility more practical and appealing for long-distance travelers.

Accessibility and User Convenience

Atlante’s charging stations will include several user-friendly features, such as intelligent lighting, Wi-Fi connectivity, digital information totems, and 24-hour video surveillance. Additionally, the stations will be accessible 24/7 and include facilities for people with reduced mobility, ensuring inclusivity in the transition to electric mobility.

Industry Impact

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Atlante as it became the first independent operator to install charging stations on Italy’s ASPI highway network. It also represents a crucial response to the increasing demand for reliable EV infrastructure that supports long-distance travel.

Statements from Atlante

Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante, highlighted the project’s importance in promoting zero-emission mobility across Southern Europe. “This award solidifies Atlante’s position as a leading independent operator in developing and managing fast and ultra-fast charging networks on highway infrastructures,” he noted.

Gabriele Tuccillo, CEO of Atlante Italia, added, “Increasing charging stations on Italian highways is a concrete response to concerns about the compatibility of electric vehicles with long-distance travel. These new ultra-fast stations enhance Atlante’s presence in strategic infrastructures, making electric mobility more feasible and convenient.”

Looking Ahead

Atlante has ambitious plans to install 5,000 fast and ultra-fast charging points by 2025 and over 35,000 by 2030 across Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The company operates over 2,000 charging points, with many more under development.

This initiative by Atlante represents a significant advancement in Italy’s EV infrastructure, supporting the broader goal of achieving widespread electrification and sustainable mobility on the nation’s highways.
